The Story behind Orange Planet Theatre

In 2011, I met a wonderful English director living in Germany and was honoured to have a part in a performance she stage-produced in England. I then joined her theatre company in Germany, where I met experienced actors Margot and Trish. We performed several times a year, but at some stage, things got calmer and every time I met one of the actors when we were performing for other theatre companies or filming together, we always agreed that we missed stage work in English. And so, one day, I decided to create a new English theatre group. Margot and Trish then brought in the lovely Priscilla, Phil and Andrew. Then I met Marc-Oliver  when performing for another ensemble and Qiao at a play reading and so on… Et voilà! I had no real idea of what I was getting into, of the amount of work and costs creating a theatre group would involve… regardless, I just went ahead. And by the way, I still have the occasional sleepless nights asking myself if we can pull this off long-term! But I’m so grateful to have these wonderful actors and other team members by my side and I believe that you have to pour your heart into your dreams and try your hardest to make them come true… So Thank you Thank you Thank you for helping us make our dream become a reality!

Why “Orange Planet”?

It is a tradition in my circle of friends from around the world that as soon as one of us creates a business, Sylvain from Paris is asked to come up with a name for it. He has given names for a hotel, a yoga centre, a Balinese retreat, two restaurants, a rock band and so on – all of which became and are successful. So, hoping to share in this good omen, we asked him and he came up with “Orange World Theatre”. “Orange”, he explained, because it is a happy colour. “World” because we currently have members from China, France, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa, the U.K. and the U.S. To me, “World” sounded a bit grand, so I suggested changing it to “Globe”. But the English members thought that might be a bit much, with “The Globe” being one of the U.K.’s most famous theatres… We finally changed it to “Planet” and everyone was happy. So… welcome to Orange Planet! We hope you will feel at home and keep visiting us… online and most importantly on stage, so that our dream can continue…

With love,

Susanne & everyone from Orange Planet
